Keeping Nillumbik Kids in School Fund

During 2013 the Lions Club of Nillumbik was given the chance to run a fundraising Christmas Concert. 300 people attended and thanks to ticket sales, afternoon tea sales and a small raffle we raised a total of $3,800 on the day. Lions International believes that our future is in our young people, so when looking for a focus for the Christmas Concert, we consulted with Nillumbik Health and various school counsellors. We thus established our “Keeping Nillumbik Kids in School” Fund. A further $6,200 was raised through raffles and BBQs during the last 12 months. The Lions Club of Diamond Valley joined us in supporting and running the fund in 20215. Guidelines for the fund were set up in consultation with Nillumbik Health and various school counsellors. Applications are originated by school counsellors and vetted through Nillumbik Health before proceeding to a meeting of the Lions Club of Nillumbik for funding approval.

To date $14,000 has been passed to schools to assist students whose families are unable to afford such extras as excursions, camps, music, art and sports activities.

We are now looking for involvement from Schools and their communities to assist us with ideas and fundraising so that we can grow the fund to a size where we can assist many more disadvantaged families.
